Center students have several opportunities to learn English, a real asset in finding future jobs. Alex did so well with his godparent funded English lessons that he now teaches English at a private school in Chapala. Classes at the Center are supervised Marilyn McDivitt who, together with teachers Pixie Frayer and Luis Vasquez, teach 15 students at three different levels each week.

Fernanda is an outstanding student who picks up English without any effort at all.  She began with the Beginner-Intermediate class, but soon advanced to the Upper Level.  Sadly, she cannot continue since she must attend regular school classes during the afternoons when the Advanced class is offered.

Students attend two classes per week and use the popular Rosetta Stone computer program in extra 30 minute self instructional sessions with scores checked by a supervisor. Even more students could be taught, if more teachers were available. Two are needed to teach the Intermediate and Advanced classes. Also non-teaching lab supervisors are needed to provide access to the Rosetta Stone computer programs. If you have a couple of hours free per week, or want more information on assisting with English classes, contact Marilyn at

Also, four young girls, Joselyn, Alejandra, Milli and Cinthya, are now attending English WORKS! Mexico, S.C. in San Antonio Tlaycapacan for English classes.  English WORKS! provides language classes through a leadership-oriented curriculum developed and delivered by Canadian professional teachers.  Attending there provides the girls with an opportunity to interact with students from all walks of life.  English WORKS! contributes scholarships for them, and their Godparents pay for the balance and daily bus fare.  For more information or if you would like to become a sponsor for more of the children, please see the website:
