Love in Action is delighted to see the return of many of our volunteers for the various children’s programs at the Center. We also welcome new volunteers who would like to become involved in a few hours time with our children at the Chapala Center in any of the following programs. Dina Oropeza, our new Administrator, claims that the best part of being at the Center for all of us is the fun time spent with the kids. Come share the love!
The Bazaar at Love in Action needs volunteers to help sort and price newly donated items or to straighten and change out clothes according to the season. Suggestions for enhancing sales are welcomed and encouraged, such as ideas for displays etc. Hours are 10 - 6 Monday to Friday depending upon available staff. The Bazaar is an important source of funds for the Center. Contact Mary Anne Molinari at 766-0175 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Club de Niños (The Children’s Club) is a preschool program for the Love In Action children. The goal is to provide extra support for the children in their social and emotional development to prepare them for school. They meet Monday afternoons for circle time, a structured craft or learning activity, and guided play followed by a nutritious snack. The volunteers have as much fun as the children. Spanish is helpful, but not required. Contact: Ruth Kading at 765-5010 or email@example.com
The Comida Project: Volunteers provide weekday lunch (comida) for the children. They cook a meal and then serve the kids. Currently, only Mondays are covered. Volunteers are needed to cover lunch on Wednesday. With more volunteers, overall preparation and dutes could be shared. Lunches have varied from sandwiches and tacos to spaghetti and sloppy joes. The cost for 60 children and their caregivers is around $70 USD. If you are interested in helping on Wednesdays or would like to donate money for lunches, contact Bonnie Newman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Computer Classes provide the children with PC computers loaded with many educational games which are oriented to math and language skills. Small classes through the week need supervisor/teachers with rudimentary Spanish. Contact: Larry Laframboise at 766-0277 or email@example.com
ESL Classes at the Center: The goal of the Center is to provide English language classes for as many children as possible to help them succeed in a bilingual world. Currently two ESL classes are being taught: Level Two and Advanced. An additional teacher volunteer is needed for a new Beginners class. Contact: Pixie Frayer 766-5876 or firstname.lastname@example.org
The Library Project places volunteers into the Library at the Center to read to children or supervise them doing jigsaw puzzles or playing games. Books are available in Spanish and English and whether volunteers are fluent in Spanish most are able to read the Spanish simple texts. Thus far only Friday mornings are scheduled and the program would like to be available at least one other day per week. Contact: Sue Kelly at 766-4815 or email@example.com
