BUENOS AIRES: LA PLATA

Another day, we took a long postponed bus trip south to the city of La Plata. Begun in the late 19th century, the city was set out with plazas and radiating boulevards where it was hoped a "modern" city would emerge by the beginning of the 20th century. Unfortunately, only a few buildings were built at that time, including the spectacular Cathedral and Opera House.

The Plaza between the Cathedral and Opera House was filled with fountains and statues, including two to honor the Perons.
